Rescue operations are ongoing in the southwestern Chinese city of Chongqing following a devastating landslide that occurred last Friday. Authorities confirmed on Thursday that search teams have recovered three additional bodies in recent days, bringing the confirmed death toll to 11. Despite these efforts, 50 people remain missing, and officials noted there have been no recent signs of life detected at the site in Pengshui County.
The collapse, which took place at the edge of the city in a region bordering Hubei and Guizhou provinces, buried more than 10 residential buildings. In the immediate aftermath of the disaster, responders recovered eight bodies and assisted 10 individuals who were reported injured.
The local government described the ongoing rescue mission as "exceptionally challenging" due to the immense volume of debris, which includes a significant number of large boulders. Searchers have used heavy machinery and drones, and teams have blasted some of the boulders into small pieces as part of the rescue work, according to the county government.
