Fourteen years after he first dismissed Travis Head during an initial visit to Australia, Taskin Ahmed is preparing to open the bowling against him in a highly anticipated Test match in Darwin. Taskin expressed his pride in the opportunity, stating that playing against Australia in their home conditions is a major milestone for the team. Growing up, Taskin admired Australian fast bowlers from afar, including legendary figures and current stars like Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, and Scott Boland. He noted that Australia is his favorite place to bowl and expressed a desire to chat with the veteran bowlers if given the chance. Bangladesh enters the series with confidence following a 2-1 ODI series victory against Australia at home, where they utilized more sporting, pace-friendly conditions rather than traditional slow, turning wickets. However, Taskin admitted that home and away conditions present a significant difference.
The team's preparation hit a snag in Darwin during a tour match against a Cricket Australia XI. Bangladesh was dismissed for 54 in an innings defeat, with 22-year-old seamer Campbell Thompson taking 8 for 25. Earlier, Teague Wyllie had scored 130 against an attack led by Taskin. Despite the result, Taskin remains focused on adjusting to local conditions. Travis Head, meanwhile, downplayed the tour match result, noting that teams often have their minds on the upcoming main event. He added, "So yeah, they'd be disappointed in that and what the outcome looks like externally. But I think internally they'd just be worried about Thursday."
