A drone strike on an industrial zone located outside the Russian capital of Moscow has resulted in five deaths and left 10 other individuals wounded, the region's governor confirmed on Tuesday. The attack occurred as Moscow and Kyiv continued to trade long-range aerial strikes. According to the local Russian official, Ukrainian drones successfully hit three separate warehouses across Russia overnight, including two facilities operated by the major e-commerce giant Wildberries.
Moscow regional governor Andrey Vorobyov reported early Tuesday that several fires erupted following the drone strike in the Novoselki industrial zone. Providing an update on the casualties, Vorobyov stated on Telegram that preliminary information indicated five people were killed and 10 others sustained injuries. The strike is part of a recent trend in which Ukraine has intensified its long-range attacks on civilian infrastructure within Russia, specifically targeting Wildberries warehouses. Kyiv frequently launches hundreds of drones into Russian territory as retaliation for Russia's own deployment of hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against Ukrainian towns and cities.
Beyond the Moscow region, drones also caused damage to a warehouse near Krasny Bor in northwestern Russia, leaving one person wounded according to Leningrad regional governor Aleksandr Drozdenko. Wildberries confirmed that a fire broke out at its Krasny Bor logistics facility due to the attack. A third Wildberries warehouse was targeted in the rural area of Emmaus, situated approximately 112 miles northwest of Moscow, according to regional governor Vitaly Korolyov. Since the conflict began in 2022, Wildberries has faced accusations of helping Russia circumvent Western sanctions by importing branded goods through third-party countries.
The violence extended into Ukraine, where Russian strikes killed three people in the northeastern city of Sumy. Oleg Grygorov, head of the regional military administration, reported on Telegram that two children and an elderly woman were killed when six guided aerial bombs struck civilian infrastructure, including residential and non-residential buildings. In the southern port city of Mykolaiv, another Russian attack resulted in the death of an 89-year-old woman, as reported by Georgy Reshetilov, head of the region's military administration. Kyiv's air force noted that Russia launched 136 drones overnight, with 117 of them being shot down or intercepted.
