US President Donald Trump is cancelling two of his last in-person midterm election rallies, the Republican National Committee announced on Thursday. The decision to scrap the planned events in Kansas and Iowa comes as the Republican Party works to maintain its control of Congress in the upcoming November 3 midterm elections. Trump has frequently urged his party to "pretend I'm on the ballot" in an effort to maximize voter turnout.
The Republican National Committee stated that because the party is in a "strong position" in both Kansas and Iowa, the previously scheduled in-person rallies will no longer take place. Instead, the President intends to hold a "large number" of virtual "telerallies" across a series of states. Following these adjustments, the President’s final election rally is now set to be held in Florida on Friday.
Despite being the oldest elected president in the history of the United States, Trump has maintained a grueling schedule of near-daily rallies throughout October to support Republican candidates. On Thursday, following a campaign trip to South Carolina, Trump reacted sharply to a reporter who asked if he was cancelling Saturday’s planned Kansas rally because he was "sick of travelling."
"You're sick to ask that question. You are sick," Trump told the reporter after returning to Washington. While boarding his motorcade to return to the White House, Trump continued his criticism, stating, "I feel perfect. You are disgusting. Put yourself in shape, you look like hell."
