Israeli military forces have shut down two key checkpoints in the northern occupied West Bank, blocking more than 100 Palestinian teachers from reaching their classrooms on Sunday. The closures are part of a broader surge in military restrictions across the occupied territory.
Azmi Balawneh, the director of education in the Tubas Governorate, confirmed that 104 teachers were stranded after Israeli forces closed the Tayasir and Ein Shibli checkpoints in the northern Jordan Valley. This disruption forced classes to halt at six local schools and a kindergarten, directly impacting approximately 1,100 students who were unable to attend their lessons.
In a separate operation in the central West Bank, Israeli forces conducted a large-scale raid on the village of Al Mughayyir, located east of Ramallah. Local sources reported that a substantial military force entered the village early Sunday morning, deploying across its neighborhoods and conducting searches of Palestinian homes. The operation involved infantry units, military vehicles, and a drone.
During the raid, Israeli forces closed the main entrance to Al Mughayyir and arrested dozens of local residents. The closure of the village's entrance caused widespread disruption, preventing residents from reaching their workplaces and stopping children from attending school. Al Mughayyir has repeatedly been targeted by Israeli military raids and settler violence, which have intensified alongside broader operations across the West Bank since October 2023.
