Public approval for the ongoing war on Iran has reached its lowest point since the conflict’s inception. According to a Reuters poll released on Monday, Aug. 24, only 31% of Americans now express support for the U.S. military operations in the region. The survey, which reached 1,215 U.S. adults nationwide, carries a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.
The White House has formally dismissed the polling data. In a statement provided to the press, White House spokesperson Davis Ingle maintained that the public is focused on the leadership of President Trump. "What matters most to the American people is having a Commander-in-Chief who takes decisive action to eliminate threats and keep them safe, which is exactly what President Trump is doing," Ingle stated. He further asserted that the president campaigned on a promise to prevent the Iranian regime from developing nuclear weapons and claimed that the country is safer due to his "bold leadership."
President Trump has frequently challenged the validity of polls indicating low approval ratings. In a post on Truth Social on Aug. 24, he characterized such findings as part of a trend of "Fake Polls" being pushed by the "Radical Left Democrats." Recent projections from YouGov and The Economist indicate that the president’s approval rating is currently negative in every state except for Wyoming, West Virginia, and Idaho.
While public support wanes, the administration is shifting its strategic focus. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the U.S. is transitioning toward an "economic onslaught" strategy, which involves tightening sanctions to cut off Iran's revenue streams. Simultaneously, the U.S. military presence in the Middle East continues, while Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth is touring the country to push for increased domestic weapons production. During a visit to Oshkosh, Wisconsin, on Aug. 24, Hegseth urged arms manufacturers to transition to a "wartime footing and build for victory."
