The 48th Istanbul Marathon has successfully hosted more than 45,000 participants, drawing competitors from 143 countries to what is recognized as the world's only intercontinental race. The event, which maintains World Athletics Gold Label status, saw a total of 45,679 individuals register to compete across five distinct categories: the 42km marathon, a 15.5km race, a corporate run, a public run, and a wheelchair race.
The race route begins on the Asian side of Istanbul at the July 15 Martyrs Bridge. Marathon runners cross the bridge into Europe, passing through several historic districts before concluding the course at Sultanahmet Square. The event included a field of 43 elite athletes, comprising 27 men and 16 women. Organizers have confirmed that the winners of both the men's and women's 42km races will each be awarded $50,000 in prize money.
