At Least 25 Dead in Cape Verde Bus Crash

At least 25 people, most of whom were teenagers, have died following a tragic traffic accident in the African island nation of Cape Verde. The incident involved a passenger bus traveling on the Campanas de Cima route, a mountainous area located on Fogo Island.

The crash occurred on Saturday and left several other individuals injured. Due to the condition of the victims, local health authorities reported that seven bodies were buried immediately following the accident.

Cape Verde President José Maria Pereira Neves addressed the tragedy in a statement shared on his Facebook page, labeling the event “a great catastrophe.” According to local news agencies, the president and other government officials are expected to visit the island on Sunday to respond to the situation. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the crash, and an investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.
